Douglas Owen Nunes
October 28 1950 - January 23 2007
In the near future, the family of Douglas Nunes will be hosting a few fundraising events. The first Fundraiser is tentatively scheduled for June 16, 2007. Details regarding the event and planning will be soon forthcoming. Our primary goal is to raise funds to be donated to the Musella Foundation to help fund the research for treatments of brain cancer. Our secondary goal is to raise the spirits of those who are still in mourning over the loss of Dougie. Nothing can ever fill the incredible void he has left, however, celebrating his life as it was, in a way that he would enjoy himself, will help to uplift those heavy hearts. There couldn't be a better way to honor a man who loved music, dining, and comedic relief than by hosting an event that incorporates all of those aspects. That is our ultimate goal...to remember him in a way that truly reflects who he was. Please contact us at: DNMemorialFund@yahoo.com to offer your help, suggestions, or to make donations toward our fundraisers. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!
MICHAELAH'S "KIDS HELPING KIDS" BIRTHDAY
June 20th, 2008
Just as your thoughtful condolences and anecdotes about Doug touched the Nunes Family at what was a difficult and painful time, they would like to take an opportunity to reciprocate the gestures by sharing with you the touching and selfless gesture that has been made by his beautiful and selfless granddaughter, Michaelah.
In her grandfather's honor and memory, Michaelah commemorated her 10th birthday by foregoing the tradition of receiving presents and asked those who would have bought her gifts to instead donate the $ to the Children's Hospital in Boston. Knowing how much her grandfather loved children, and knowing how brain cancer affected him and affects so many children, Michaelah felt that this was the best way possible to celebrate her 10th birthday.
Since her birthday, Michaelah has received many checks from friends and family for the Children's Hospital, with amounts ranging anywhere from $10-$100. Some of those checks are even going to be matched by some employers. In addition to those donations, because Michaelah registered her birthday with the Peter Pan Children's Fund, once all of the donations have been submitted to the hospital, the Peter Pan Children's Fund will donate another $100 in Michaelah's name. To date, the amount Michaelah has collected totals $680. Once the donation matches come through, and the Peter Pan Children's Fund adds their $100 donation, the total will be $1,035, all of which will be donated specifically to the Children's Hospital Medical Department of Michaelah's choice: The Brain Tumor Research Fund.
To witness the selflessness and generosity of this gesture and knowing what Michaelah has accomplished, our hearts are filled with love and pride and it has eased some of our grief and loss. We hope that by sharing this, it will do the same for you!
Michaelah presented all of the donations she collected to the Children's Hospital on Monday, July 21, 2008. In total, Michaelah collected $710, $285 of which will be matched by a few people's employers. That, in addition to the $100 that the Peter Pan Children's Fund will donate in Michaelah's name to recognize her generosity and accomplishment, brings the grand total to $1,100.00! WAY TO GO MICHAELAH! Thanks again SO much to everyone who contributed to this effort, including Michaelah's older sister Melanie. We are all so proud of them both!
