Douglas Owen Nunes
October 28 1950 - January 23 2007

This online memorial was created in loving memory of Douglas Nunes, whose life story is told throughout this memorial website. Please sign Douglas's guest book and let us know you came to visit. As you can see from this picture, Douglas Nunes was a man with a fun-loving personality and great character. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a jack of all trades, and his self-taught skills were highly sought out by friends and family. If you had something that was broken, no matter what it was, you went to Dougie to get it fixed, especially if you were a child with a broken toy! He had a soft spot for his grandchildren that rendered him vulnerable to ONLY them. His unique sense of humor and playful banter was the cause of much exasperation for many of his loved ones. The best way to explain it is to say that if he poked fun of you, or did something in an attempt to annoy you, then he really liked you! That was his way of showing his affection...and if he DIDN'T bother you, then you REALLY had something to worry about! Although shy around people he didn't know well, he was always friendly to everyone, but he wouldn't go that extra step to "bug" them if he wasn't comfortable enough with them to do so. Needless to say, anyone who knew Doug well enough to have him make fun of them knew that they were pretty special! His wife, Joey, sons Douglas, Jason, and Matthew, and grandchildren Melanie and Michaelah will forever be grateful for the blessing that was his presence in their lives. We were so fortunate to have had him healthy and happy since 2000, his first diagnosis of brain cancer. We spent the time we had with him laughing and enjoying life, but he was taken from us on January 23rd, 2007, due to an aggressive recurrence of the GBM, discovered in December, 2006. Although we'll miss him deeply, we'll never take the last 6 years for granted, and it has taught us to not take each day to come for granted either. Dougie/Dad/Gramps/Papa will live on in our hearts and memories and we will love and remember him forever.

A beautiful and touching Memorial Service was held on Saturday, February 10th, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Church in the Pines in West Wareham, MA. During the ceremony, we remembered and celebrated the life of Our Beloved Doug, while we mourned our great loss. So many people were in attendance that the church pews were filled and people were standing along the walls and in the doorway. To see so many people that had come to pay their respects to Doug and his family was profoundly touching.  Doug's obituary was only temporarily viewable on the Standard Times website, so it has been added to this webpage so that it may be viewed forever.
